Mini Dental Implants
About Mini Dental Implants
With mini dental implants as an option, patients can avoid unnecessary surgical procedures that are costly and time consuming. The old style traditional dental implants can take longer to complete, especially if you have bone loss. We speed up the entire implant process by offering mini dental implants.
What are Mini Dental Implants?
Mini dental implants (MDIs) have revolutionized the way patients receive implants. Unlike traditional dental implants that require patients to come back for multiple visits, MDIs allow us to place and restore the implant within an hour, and avoid surgery all together. This non-invasive treatment can prevent patients from going for long periods of time without teeth.
MDIs are commonly used to help stabilize dentures. MDIs will firmly anchor the denture in place without the need to deal with adhesives and loose fitting dentures!
Why Mini Dental Implants?
MDI’s are smaller in diameter but just as long as traditional implants. This smaller diameter allows us to place the implant into places where teeth have been missing for some time and where the bone has resorbed into a thin ridge. A 2.5mm diameter implant can be placed into a 3.5mm ridge-where a 3.7mm in diameter traditional implant cannot. The tissue is normally not moved away from the bone with a surgical flap, thus maintaining proper blood supply to the bone around the implant. This allows us to restore the implant immediately if we get 30NC of torque on the initial placement.
How do MDIs Work?
MDIs are small dental implants that look similar to screws, and act in place of a natural tooth root. MDIs are created from titanium, and are set up in a way to promote a quick healing process. The mini implant will sit comfortably in the gum tissue, and is capable of withstanding large amounts of pressure and support a crown, bridges or dentures.
How do MDIs Improve Patient Health?
MDIs are a perfect solution for patients hoping to avoid invasive dental surgery. They have several advantages over traditional dental implants, as they are the best option for patients with bone loss. Bone grafting can take months, and it may not be successful at restoring the jaw bone strength to hold a dental implant.
It is possible to place 1-10 MDI’s in the same appointment. We recommend MDIs because they do not require invasive surgery, making them a much gentler option. MDIs are also less expensive compared to a traditional dental implant, and they can be placed anywhere in the mouth.
